Weather Stripping

Wood window sashes give the classic look to your home and, when properly maintained, they can last for years. They may, however, get damaged or deteriorated over time due to exposure or normal wear. The first step in sash window repairs is addressing weather stripping, which is found on both the sash as well as the frame. It can cause drafts if it's worn out or loose. To fix it, start by finding your window brand and the date of manufacture for the glass (etched in the corner of the glass or on the aluminum spacer between panes). Smooth the compound using a putty tool, and let it dry for at least one day. After it has fully dried then apply a top coat of acrylic latex paint. This will protect the putty, and give your sash an updated appearance.

Sash Hardware

Depending on the size of your window two or three sash weights might be required to keep the sash in an open position.
