Big Chill

The brand was launched in the US back in 2003, Big Chill was founded by the uncle-and-nephew duo of Thom Vernon and Orion Creamer, who wanted to make a statement fridge that wasn't hidden behind cabinets. They opted to channel 1950s designs with cast metal bodies and chrome trim, and then added pivoting handles to add retro appeal. The result is a fridge that's freestanding that has become a favorite of celebs - with Drew Barrymore, Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively among its fans.

The fridge freezers of the brand are available in a range of bold colours and you can opt for a custom colour for an additional $400. The Big Chill model we tested was a deep Bordeaux Red, and it's a real attention-grabber. The freezer is in the upper part of the fridge, and is separated by an divide. This should make it easier to prioritize frozen food when you shop unplanned.
